June 2023
In 2023, the R/V Revelle conducted a basin-wide expedition in the Indian Ocean made up of smaller expeditions including the DMBE (in light green on map); Port Louis, Mauritius to Goa, India transit (in orange); ASTRAL/EKAMSAT (not displayed on map); Goa, India to Fremantle, Australia transit (in blue); and the IO5 expedition (in red). GO-BGC saves time and money by utilizing research vessles of opportunity, like the Revelle, to deploy floats as it travels between ports to pick up new researchers and equipment; as in the transit from Port Louis, Mauritius to Goa, India.
Four floats were deployed between Mauritius and India from the Revelle.
Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.
Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Shipboard Calibration and Validation Datasets page.
The floats deployed from the Revelle as part of the Port Louis, Mauritius to Goa, India transit were adopted by schools across the U.S. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-float data table, photos of floats can be found on our Flickr page.
The float Kujira Kaigan was deployed into the Indian Ocean on the Mauritius to India transit.
Saftey first for researchers and techs aboard the Revelle that deploy GO-BGC floats- everyone wears a lifevest.
