March 2021
The first GO-BGC deployments were carried out in the western North Atlantic through a partnership with the International Global Ocean Ship-Based Hydrographic Investigation Program (GO-SHIP). In total, twelve biogeochemical floats were deployed along the A20 and A22 GO-SHIP lines by researchers and crew of the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. As part of the expedition, on-board crew and researchers contributed to a GO-BGC Expedition Log and a U.S. GO-SHIP blog that described life at sea while on an oceanographic expedition.
Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.
Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Shipboard Calibration and Validation Datasets page.
All twelve GO-BGC floats for the A20/A22 expedition were adopted by schools in the United States and Canada. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-Float table, photos of floats can be found on our Flickr page.
