The RV/IB Nathaniel B. Palmer (named for the first American to see Antarctica) will conduct an expedition southward from New Zealand to Antarctica and Palmer Station, then north to Punta Arenas, Chile crossing the Drake Passage (named for Sir Francis Drake). Between New Zealand and Punta Arenas, the RV/IB Palmer will deploy 9 GO-BGC floats.

The nine floats deployed from the Palmer 24-04 expedition were adopted by schools in California, Hawai’i, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, and schools from Reykjavik,Iceland and Ras al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
