2024 Pacific Transit

GO-BGC is teaming up with Lindblad Expeditions to deploy floats from their cruise ship, the National Geographic Resolution.

GO-BGC is teaming up with Lindblad Expeditions to deploy floats from their cruise ship, the National Geographic Resolution. This is our first time partnering with their Visiting Scientists Program! A total of 12 floats will be deployed as the ship crosses the Pacific. Our scientist will be the only passenger onboard as the ship repositions before its austral summer season in Antarctica. The floats are loading in Iceland and will ride the ship through the Northwest Passage and then around Japan. Floats will be deployed on the ship’s repositioning cruise from Kobe, Japan to Puerto Montt, Chile from late September to late October, 2024. Seawater samples will be collected and analyzed back on land to help verify the floats.
