Chesty's Yacht

The National Geographic Resolution Olympics celebrations continued with live music and dancing, and we deployed Chesty’s Yacht

October 25, 2024

On October 22, almost at the end of the repositioning voyage, we started the night with a special dinner in the mess on Deck 5, where the whole crew gathered to share a delicious meal. Afterward, in conclusion of the ship’s Olympic Games, we enjoyed a beautiful award ceremony, with a funny and thoughtful speech of the Captain. My team, the Red Horse, claimed an impressive second place, just behind the Yellow Dragon! It was an honor to be part of a team where everyone gave their all—demonstrating heart, competitive spirit, skill, and incredible teamwork. Bravo to everyone!

The celebrations continued with live music and dancing, but I had to call it a night early to prepare for another float deployment— WHOI’s float Chesty’s Yacht (Float-ID #1573). The conditions were definitely rougher than in the previous deployment, but a success nonetheless. (Only my camera decided to stop working all of a sudden.)

Chesty’s Yacht was adopted by Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS. Their mascot is the Chesty Lion, and they are proud to be the only Chesty Lions in the country. Their Ecology & Environmental Science classes voted and this was their favorite name. Chesty is ready to set sail on the high seas!
