And now, I bring to you, some people’s favorite topic… food! Funny thing is that at mealtimes, half of the conversations we end up having revolve around food, haha! Some days we measure time by when meals are ready, and other days dreaming of meals is the only thing pushing us through those few hours between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My shift is fun because I’m virtually in a food “dead zone”, as one of my fellow scientists called it. My shift is 10 pm – 10 am. I wake up and eat leftovers, followed by first breakfast/snack time around 3 am, and then true breakfast at 7:30 am, my first (and only) “real” meal. So, to help me out I have Kurtis here documenting for lunch, dinner, and dessert:
Unlike Sidney, I feel I’m in the mealtime sweet spot (sorry, Sidney). My shift is 12 pm – 12 am, so I wake up to a fresh lunch at 11:30 am. I’m a big fan of lunch for breakfast – how about tacos or sliders to start your day, mmm. A brief five hours later, it’s supper time and another fresh meal – gourmet dishes like rare steak, spicy Thai curry, and sashimi with wasabi. And dessert with every meal! We’ve had everything from soft cookies straight out of the oven, to bread pudding with peaky whipped cream. This is all prepared by the excellent chefs onboard, Jay and Mark, who truly deserve MVP for the cruise. Good food, good crew, and good views make for happy scientists (and, therefore, quality data processing)!
Lunch: Yorkshire puddings, and don’t forget the gravy! Mmm. Photo by Kurtis Anstey.

Dessert!! May I offer you some flan? Photo by Kurtis Anstey.
